Simon Newbury saves the day - Debonnaire Charleston Dance

As you may know Simon Newbury has been creating a photograph a day for publishing, you may have seen some of his work on this blog. If not, why not look at this collection of photographs and this

But sometimes, he is there to save someone else's day, here is his story:

Last Thursday Simon had a call out of the blue from a friend who had been let down by their photographer.

He was required to go along that Friday to cover the launch of Bexhill's 2015 "Roaring 20's" event where Roger Crouch and the Debonnaire Entertainment Dancers will attempt to break the World Record for The Largest Charleston Dance.

The record is currently held by the Blue Mountains, Lithgow and Oberon region of New South Wales, Australia, when 356 people performed a simple five minute prepared routine.

Simon has already been booked to cover the actual event on July 18th 2015

For more information please see http://bexhillroaring20s.org.uk/performers/
and, of course, Simon's own website

Simon Newbury - examples of his work

Simon Newbury has been developing his painting and photographic skills all his life, have a look at some of his examples from his recent work.

As part of his photo a day challenge, Simon will
often pick on his children. Child Noir.

Simon has helped local actors and dancers
with head shots for their portfolio.
This is of Naomi Wareham.

What was a bit of a wet day,
see the evidence on the floor,
Simon has created a miracle.

Satyrday - our contributions - part two

As Satyrday comes to an end, we look at our other creatives Satyr'ical characterisations:

Patryk Hardziej gave us the Satyr with drink in hand as he heads to town for the night.
The Satyr, I mean, not Patryk or maybe both. Can we also welcome our new
creative, he is awaiting his pencils.

Kerry Bennett brings us a chicken possibly on the head of a satyr,
quickly drawn before catching the train.

You'll get to recognise this satyr, he is slowly going off the rails
on this Satyrday night.

Simon Newbury plays with manipulates to bring a mythical mosaic

With a Guinness and a lobster, his Satyrday night
gets worse...

Exquisite Corpse Panel 3

In our first regular art project, the collected creatives who use the Blackwing pencil, we bring you the third panel by the artist and photographer, Simon Newbury. Simon shows his work on different sites across the web, have a look at his past stuff at Pinterest, Facebook and his own website. See if you can find the past echoes of the previous panels.

Exquisite Corpse Panel 3

Simon says about his portrait, "I wanted to continue the narrative and was inexplicably drawn to the  hole in the wing of Bart's winged man. Unsure of the significance of the hole but with the theme of Blackwing, I had to include it, to look through it and wanted to see someone gazing back in sadness at this void and the wing's inevitable uselessness." He used both the Blackwing and the Blackwing 602. Who will be next? Did you find the echo from the first panel? Crocodile Tears.

Our chosen instrument - #1 - Simon Newbury

One of our creatives has received a parcel in the post and as part of his New Year Resolution, to take and publish a photo a day, Simon Newbury publishes his photo of his instrument of choice.

A friend of mine gave me some pencils recently as part of a new creative group @takingaline. Thesesare very special pencils. As Wikipedia will tell you the Blackwing 602 is a model of pencil that has developed a cult following as "best pencil ever made."

It is a very soft pencil with a wax addition to the lead, and has been advertised as requiring only half of the usual physical effort to produce the marking, or as the pencil states "Half the pressure, twice the speed!" The pencil was used mainly by artists, writers and musicians, including Oscar winning animation director Chuck Jones, author John Steinbeck and record producer Quincy Jones, and now me - I look forward to having a scribble! #365dayphotochallenge 7/365 - Simon Newbury
